From April 10 to 12, Macao will host the 14th edition of the Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE). Organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the event takes place at the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo under the theme “Global Convergence, Future Horizons.” The expo aims to present the region as a platform for innovation and collaboration in the travel sector.

Multi-destination travel and regional collaboration

A central theme is multi-destination travel, driven by Macao’s hosting of the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting and the 67th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting. Participating agencies introduced interactive “APEC multi-destination itineraries” available for purchase on-site. These itineraries encourage regional exploration across Asia-Pacific destinations. Visitors can engage with this concept through the “MITE X APEC Stamp Passport” campaign. A complimentary passport allows attendees to collect stamps from booths representing APEC member economies.

The event also highlights the strategic role of Macao as a bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The presence of Portuguese and Spanish pavilions reinforces this connection. Initiatives such as the China–Spain–Portugal Tourism Product Promotion Seminar create opportunities for business collaboration. Culinary discovery plays a role through the “Asia-Pacific gastronomy showcase.” The Foodie Market, The Cellar, and the Coffee Station offer a selection of signature dishes and beverages from the region.

Technology, health, and inclusivity

Innovation features prominently at MITE 2026. The debut of the Tourism Technology Exhibition Hall showcases cutting-edge solutions for the travel experience. Exhibitors present digital platforms and intelligent tourism services. A Low-Altitude Economy Pavilion spotlights urban air mobility and low-altitude tourism. These initiatives illustrate how technology can reshape how destinations are reached and explored.

Inclusivity remains a focus. The new “Silk Road · Halal products pavilion” and networking sessions on Muslim-friendly tourism demonstrate a commitment to tailored travel experiences. Health and wellness integration is another key development. The Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital participates for the first time. This highlights the city’s capabilities in medical and wellness tourism. The “one expo, two destinations” approach connects Macao with Hengqin. Forums and exchange programmes on health, wellness, and the “silver economy” emphasise experiences that prioritise wellbeing.

Youth engagement and destination marketing

The expo aims to engage younger travellers through the newly introduced “Magnetic creative hub.” This space offers interactive workshops, cultural showcases, and creative content designed to resonate with Generation Z. Central to this initiative is MAK MAK, Macao’s tourism mascot. The character is being relaunched through a new IP licensing programme. At the “Culture and creativity hub,” a “Mak Mak & friends” photo installation will showcase the mascot’s personas alongside licensed merchandise.

Spanning 30,000 square metres, the event features nearly 1,500 booths. It hosts over 700 exhibitors and more than 600 hosted buyers from around the world. The scale of the expo shows its position as a leading platform for global tourism exchange. The event welcomes the general public, offering access to travel deals and destination showcases.

Visitor information

Visitors can explore event-only deals from exhibitors, including discounted hotel stays, travel packages, and airfares. These promotions are suitable for planning getaways during the Labour Day period or the summer season. Attendees who spend 300 patacas or more on-site over the three days are eligible for the “MAK MAK Grand Lucky Draw.” The draw offers a selection of appealing prizes.
